What is the CRCT?
It is a test given to
students in grades 1st through 8th. Students in all grades take the
CRCT in Reading, English/Language arts and Mathematics. Students in
grades 3rd through 8th also take a test in Science and Social Studies.
How does the CRCT determine promotion or retention?
Students in third grade
must pass the reading CRCT and students in fifth grade must pass the
reading and math CRCTs. Students in these grades that do not pass these
areas are offered the change to retest after receiving help during the
summer. If a student doesn't pass a second time, they can be retained.
However, a meeting between the child's school and parent(s) can be
requested. At that meeting, all parties can agree that the child is
ready for the next grade level and then he/she can be promoted. This
policy will require eighth graders to pass the reading and math CRCTs
beginning next school year.
