Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)
PBIS is a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to organize evidence-based practices, improve their implementation of those practices, and maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students. PBIS supports the success of ALL students.
PBIS provides a positive and effective alternative to the traditional methods of discipline. PBIS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurence of problem behaviors in the school, resulting in a more positive school climate and increased academic performance. The goal is to create a positive social culture in which pro-social behaviors are explicitly taught and reinforced, and all adults respond to the occurence of problem behavior in a consistent manner.
